OTC camp '09

12th June 2009~15th June 2009
-a SUPER late update ><-

=Day 1=

~C-squared~
we met up before the camp..
a bit of delays here and there..
and i realised there's $1.50 chicken rice at Pasir Ris~
then we tear up the labels, and did some log stuff...
then polished boots..
koped cloth and kiwi from Chang Yu (boss!)
sorry for cutting your cloth,
will pass you the new one on 28th!

~2X2.4km~
this is the first time i ran 2.4km without stopping...
and twice, plus consecutively somemore...
wells,
was extra during this run...
went up to people who are from other groups,
who i totally dunno at all,
who i still dunno at all after camp,
and told them to run/jog, dun walk etc...
some sort of encouragement in a way...
guess i didn't leave a good impression..
but who cares..
Zzzz
but then again,
maybe that's the reason why i didn't stop...
was told that the first round represents sec 1 to 4,
while the second round represents moving on to becoming an officer...
and that what matters is not how well you did for the first round,
but how much you improved for the second round...
i think that,
basically,
the first round is like easy cox you had the stamina,
you had the energy,
your attitude towards SJ was better,
you were more willing to learn,
and more capable in absorbing..
but for the second round,
you keep finding excuses like:
you had done enough,
you are tired of SJ,
you already know,
you shouldn't be learning, there's nothing for you to learn..
and that's what makes thing difficult...
and in that round,
you have to unlearn what you know,
and learn them back again,
and push for an improvement..

~Triage~
was the OIC for this triage...
my usual old bad habit comes about again..
was screamed at by some officers...
but i know they are trying to instill a sense of urgency in us...
and also,
someone has to be the "devil"
hahas...
learned a lot...
and i'm trying to kick my stupid damn habit.. =)

then,
had wash up..
no offence,
but Greenview Sec,
sadly, has no shower room at all...
at least not in the toilets that we used...
so we were like using pails and stuff..
waited rather long before i got to bathe..
and i think i bathed quite fast?
hahas~

then went back to bunk..
supposed to sleep at 1++am..
but ended up sleeping at 2++am..
cox i went to write the journal thingy..
i wrote it really as a journal i guess..
really more of how i felt about the camp..
and about the people in the camp..
hahas~

=Day 2=

woke up at 4am..
went to wash up,
then wake ppl up..
then went down to fall in...

the run
did stretching, warm up,
then we had a run to Pasir Ris Park...
was told that to and fro,
it's 6 km...
hmmm..
not really run ar..
jogged ba, i guess?
hahas~
as usual,
me, the extra personnel,
went around pushing ppl...
hahas~
this time,
"sang" a bit..
sang "ai wo bie zou"
literal translation, it means, if you love me, dun walk...
hahas~
lame, i know~

wells,
reached Pasir Ris Park,
had cool down, drank water..
then fall in for writing the journal...
erm,
was told by Gek Min Mdm that i should tone down,
so that others can have a chance at things..
looking and thinking back,
she saved my skin...
as you all know,
it's normal for over-enthu and extra personnel like me to become public enemy...
it's human nature la,
can't be helped..
thanks for the advice, Gek Min Mdm! =)

then after that,
we went to the beach,
was told to think through the reasons why we joined OTC,
why are we here...
and was told to recite the officers' creed..
we didn't do well,
there's no spirit in our reciting..
it's pure words coming outta our mouths..
this pissed William Sir off~
haix..

then we ran back to Greenview...
cox it was drizzling...
so i think we didn't complete 6km in total..
maybe 4 or 5km..

hmmm...
then we had breakfast,
after which we tried to practice our officers' creed again..
emphasising on the 'I's~
hahas..

~lectures~
then, we had inspiring lectures again...
i think i am someone easily affected by what is shown or taught to me...
the lectures,
they make me wanna work harder,
they make me wanna become a better person,
and they made me feel that i suck,
the current me suck,
and that i needa pull up my socks and start working...

~16 important things~
then we had this '16 important things to you'...
we were told to write down 16 things that were important to us...
for me,
my top 3 are
1. Family
2. Friends
3. SJ
it was difficult to decide between SJ and friends...
family is clear cut la...
sorry.. ><
even if i grumble,
family is still my most impt thing,
that's what i think..
why in the end,
friends won,
is cox,
SJ, and the people in SJ
are 2 diff things...
SJ in itself,
not considering the people,
i think is less impt than ppl..
so friends won..
=)
found out that,
somebody cried..
when choosing between his top 2...
it shows his passion..
hormats to him~! =D

~teambuilding games~
we had teambuilding games too~
these games,
although played before numerous times,
it's still fun..
cox,
sometimes it's not the activity that makes things memorable,
it's the people you did it with that makes memories invaluable.
and thanks to ALPHA,
these games are fun and memorable to me! =D

~ultimate challenge~
next comes the highlight!
The Ultimate Challenge!
we are split into teams of 5 people each..
then we were dispatched team by team to clear 8 stations

sequence:
1.complete 150 push-ups as a team in total
2.vertical climb, slap wall, shout 'LEAD WITH HONOUR', get jigsaw piece,
3.TOC one of the members, cross benches obstacles
4.complete 30 pull-ups as a team in total
5.do shuttle run
6.manual lift a member, remaining person carry bags and strecher
7.run/walk 3/4 round of the classroom block
8.TOC a member, leopard crawl under a bench

while waiting for your team to be dispatched,
you are supposed to be in push-up/crunches/buddha clap position, interchanging..
after you complete the 8 stations,
you have 1 minute to rest and you have to go back and join those waiting...
it was a test of endurance..
it was a test of mentality..
and it was FUN!
hee hee~
esp our "support" part~
for the buddha clap position~
WEE~
we rock ppl! XD

~the 2800~
and then,
we completed 2800 push-ups...
the instructors did 800,
trainees did 2000...
shiok sia~
hahas~
and then William Sir said that,
this year's OTC camp,
is one of the most physically straining one...
which reflects what Zhan Hui Sir told me right before my OTC camp..
LOLs~
okay la~
we made it through,
as a TEAM!
HEE HEE!

then,
we read the officers' creed,
filled with energy and force! =D
frankly speaking,
an easily affected person like me,
felt energy pumped into me,
because of this creed.. =)

was told by Ai Shu Mdm about toning down also..
but what she said was,
in a way,
i am doing things for others,
and it's not fair or sth like that?
if it's not fair to others,
i'm really sorry for causing trouble.. ><
but,
if she meant it's unfair to me
hmmm..
she might be right la..
but for me,
i think that,
i have a mama, gan jeong nature in me...
i just wanna make things easier for everyone..
by shun bian doing 1 more thing,
things get easier by one bit.
everyone gets things easier,
isn't that better?
hahas~
for me,
nothing is fair in this world,
and it doesn't really matter whether i'm at advantage or disadvantage..
kai xin jiu hao
happy can le..
hahas..
anyways,
thanks for caring about me! =)
Thanks Ai Shu Mdm!

then,
once again,
slept at 2+am,
woke up at 4am the next day..

=Day 3=

~2X2.4, TEAM VERSION~
We were told to set a timing that we can complete 2.4 as a team...
our team set the fastest timing out of the 7 teams--16:30...
hahas~
the first run,
Hizan fall out,
we ran 18 minutes plus...
but we didn't run as a team,
so we deserved to re-run...

the second run,
we walked tog as a team,
and it feels great! =)

this run,
what i learned:
"we leave no man behind, no matter what"
=D

~AOP~
finally,
had our presentation...
i think it was quite okay..
Well Done C-Squared!
Well Done Boss!
hahas
except for the fact that,
ehhh
i think,
i suck at giving instructions...
haiz....
i shall make myself firmer!
I WILL! =D

~reflection~
were told to vote for 3 good people, 3 people who needs to improve..
and also answer a few questions
as well as 2 letters..
one to apologise
one in tribute..
my 3 good people are:
Chang Yu, Han Ying, Wai Kin
my letter,
apology is to Cherie...
tribute,
is to my overworked woman...
hahas~

then we were split into groups..
half a team followed an officer...
i was in the group with Isabel Mdm,
and Nerissa was with us...
i cried
when reading the tribute letter..
><
actually,
was already crying when i wrote the letter..
it's just..
maybe,
a physically worn out me,
couldn't hold back my tears,
couldn't continue with my stubborn ways..
hahas~
so sorry for crying.. ><
and,
i gave my overworked woman the letter...
wonders if she kept it?
maybe no..
hahas~

~Triage 2~
had another triage...
and this time,
i'm still the First-Aider..
ehhh
it's full of hiccups too...
BUT!
i think we did improve a little..
=)

~Campfire~
it was a fun one..
and everyone enjoyed,
i'm glad..
but then,
yours truly here,
screwed what little things that i'm supposed to do...
and i spoilt the mood of officers,
and,
suckily,
i cried...
though for like 2 seconds...
luckily,
only in front of 1 person..
Nerissa~
LOLs
sorry...
to cry in front of you..
2nd time in the camp somemore
><
cried cox i was worried that,
C-squared,
who did a good job,
would be affected...
haiz
anyways,
i think C-squared is fantastic!
=D
we made Dr. Chen Sze Hua Dance!
heehee~ =P

then,
we had a group debrief,
then went to sleep...
slept at 12plus,
then woke up at 2plus..
we were supposed to wake up at 3am~
found out after camp that officers woke us up at 2plus..
hahas~

=Day 4=

~16 Km Road March~
It's a wonderful experience..
tested the limits of my legs..
hahas..
and,
initially,
i was supposed to conserve my voice for ANCO..
but ended up,
just joined in the timings and cheers..
hahas~
we got totally high once we saw Loyang Point..
hahas~
cox reaching Greenview..

and at the midpoint of the route,
we were given a paper,
and
1 star=gonna fail
2 stars=got chance to get best trainee
no star=average...
when i got my paper,
i kinda a bit sian..
but cox William Sir announced that it's based on the votes that we gave on Day 3...
it struck me that it's natural that i got 1 star...
cox,
afterall,
i offended so many ppl..
and irritated so many ppl..
but ended up,
everyone got 1 star..
but i think,
if they really do this properly,
i'd still get 1 star..
hahas~

~Presentation of Ranks~
it was,
a proper parade,
it feels like,
all of us truly deserve this,
it feels like,
we worked,
for that 1 white bar that was worn on our shoulders by our instructors...
it felt like harvest after working in the field..
at least,
i am proud to say that,
this rank that we got,
we get it after 4 days together,
after 4 days that changed the way we think
after 4 day that changed us..
congrats to all coursemates! =D

~Gratitute~
we were told that William Sir cried a little after our presentation of ranks..
then we were given materials to write notes to him..
my team wrote to Isabel Mdm and Gek Min Mdm too~ =D
Alpha rocks.. =D
then some of us read out the notes to him..
too bad he didn't cry...
he looked like he was on the verge to..
hahas~

~Area Cleaning~
had a talk with Isabel Mdm...
felt better about a few things..
and,
learned from Isabel Mdm's experience..
Thanks Isabel Mdm!
=D
sorry that i didn't do the area cleaning.. ><
sorry C-squared~ ><

=other stuff=

~William Sir~

ehhh
okays,
impression of him
up down up..
that's what i would say...
down,
wasn't because of tekan etc..
it's cox of my think too much..
sorry sir..
and,
William Sir is a good leader...
the biggest inspiration he left in us,
i would say,
is the desire to change and improve.. =)
and i would say that,
i kinda applied that in one of the things i did recently.. =)

~my overworked woman~
hmmm
she very cold during the camp sia..
but thanks to her,
i had a good talk with Isabel Mdm..
and i realised,
she has the same kinda thinking as me..
i understand..
"it's not about how much they know you've done, it's about how much they don't know"
it's all about silent love, silent care, silent concern...
Thanks Jie~! =)

~C-squared~
thanks for being such good comm mates!
i think we made things a little easier for the course?
in a way?
hahas~
really had fun working together~
let's work together somemore kay?
hee! =D

~Boss~
thanks so much for doing so much,
for C-squared,
and for the course!
xin ku ni le~
sorry that you did everything..><
and hormat to you..
for your passion!
=)

okays, that's for my OTC camp experience..
very long-winded..
hahas~
